Georgina (PI)

Meet the Group

Georgina is a lecturer in the school of Biosciences, Cardiff University and the group leader. Her research focuses on using structural modelling and protein dynamics (via simulation) to understand the impact of coding changes or specific structural features on disease. She is interested in the impact of DNA structure and mutations in the repair machinery on DNA repair rates and how this affects age at onset or dementia risk as well as development or progression of mutations in cancer.

Rebekah (second year PhD)

Rebekah is a PhD student in the school of medicine, Cardiff University and a member of the UK Dementia Research institute at Cardiff. Her research focus is utilising antibodies as templates to inhibit complement driven inflammation of the brain using both wet-lab and computational methods. She is interested in modelling the antibody-antigen interactions with different complement components with the aim to develop therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease. - Lead supervisor Dr Wiola Zelek

Ellie (Integrated Masters Student)

Ellie is a fourth year Biochemistry Integrated masters student. Her project will utilise in silico modelling and in vitro studies to investigated Vip3 toxins, these are insecticidal proteins, produced naturally by bacteria, and have high specificity for target pests (Lepidoptera). They are particularly useful due to this specificity, being harmless to humans and any other organisms outside of the target range.Ellie is co-supervised by Prof Colin Berry
